The Royal Salt and Baroque Route is full of hidden gems to discover during this authentic immersion: on-board commentary, guided walking tours, charming villages, and remarkable monuments set against breathtaking landscapes (includes lunch in a traditional restaurant).

We will explore two medieval villages—true labyrinths of narrow streets steeped in history and legend—boasting a Baroque heritage unique to France, dotted with hidden chapels, cathedrals, and monasteries. After the scenic train ride, a private shuttle will provide easy access between villages along spectacular mountain roads.

Breathe in the fresh Alpine air during off-the-beaten-path walks through perched villages and their hidden treasures. Experience the luxury of being moments from the Mediterranean while standing at the gateway to the Mercantour National Park and its mysterious Valley of Wonders.

A guided tour of the Franciscan Monastery is included (⚠️ fairly steep climb) or enjoy extra free time to explore this village—miraculously clinging to the mountainside "between sky and earth" and ranked among the Most Beautiful Villages of France. In the second village, you will have the opportunity to visit an incredible museum dedicated to the 100,000 rock engravings testifying to the lives of Bronze Age Alpine peoples (over 5,000 years ago)—a singular heritage from a timeless site.

You will also have the chance to explore ancient castle ruins, vestiges of a tumultuous past shaped by glory and war (French and Italian history, Napoleon, WWII), grace and hardship.

Return to Nice by train at 7:00 PM.

WINTER OPTION (on demand): Snowshoes hikings in the high peaks around 5200-6000 feets high.
